Omari Jazz Unveils Vinyl Release of Acclaimed Album "Dream Child"
Five years after its original digital debut, the Portland-based composer and producer Omari Jazz presents the first-ever vinyl pressing of his acclaimed album, Dream Child. Initially composed live on Twitch during the early months of lockdown, the record quietly grew into a cult favorite, beloved for its lush textures, subtle rhythms, and emotional resonance. This vinyl reissue, presented as a deluxe double gatefold LP, expands the original tracklist to include previously unreleased recordings, outtakes, and sonic sketches—offering listeners an even deeper exploration of the dreamlike world Omari crafted in real-time.
Described by Bandcamp as “one of the most immersive beat tapes in recent memory, ” Dream Child is an album defined by subtlety. It unfolds slowly, in quiet, cinematic moments, inviting repeated listens. "At the time, it didn’t feel like I was making an album, " Omari reflects. "I was just following a feeling." That intuitive spirit is captured in every track, where fragments of ambient, jazz, and experimental hip-hop gently collide. The previously unreleased additions, all emerging from those same creative sessions, feel less like bonus tracks and more like hidden chapters—pieces of the original dream, newly brought to the surface.
The vinyl release coincides with the first Portland screening of the accompanying short film, also titled Dream Child, created in collaboration with filmmaker Leah Brown. Shot in stark black-and-white, the film deepens the album’s narrative, rooted in a childhood dream Omari had long carried with him. Both works explore the blurred boundary between sleep and waking life, memory and imagination. “It’s the twilight,” Omari says, “that moment in between. That's the space this album inhabits.”
